Design & Nature Reimagined: When gardens smelled good

ISSUE #61

As spring (slowly) starts to blossom here, I wanted to write about one of the things I think we've lost in a lot of gardens, but also maybe didn't realize was gone—aromas. Because of the way we've decided to grow and expand our gardens, many don't smell as good or as much as they used to.

But what we don't realize, is what an impact this can have on us and the wildlife around us. Read this week's article on why flowers smell, how we've changed flowers so they're not as fragrant, and a fascinating exploration for extinct scents.
